Neither does Emacs in its normal GUI mode.  I'd hope this to be the case
for most editors, but then quite a few editors like vi run typically
inside of a terminal, and the terminal (unless being used as a "dumb"
terminal) does not really have a way to know which of the physical line
endings on the screen are supposed to correspond to newlines and which
not.  So if you are copying and pasting from the terminal rather than by
using editor-specific commands, all bets are off.
