I build with
LILYPOND_EXTERNAL_BINARY=/usr/bin/lilypond \
LILYPOND_BINARY=/usr/bin/lilypond \
make doc
when I get the crash.
Then
lilypond-2.17.23/Documentation/ly-examples/out-www>
gdb /usr/bin/lilypond core
(gdb) disassemble axis_aligned_side_helper
So I hope answer to your question is yes.
