My error magically resolved itself somehow, so it's fine now.

Have you tried clearing the cache?
I did when investigating
CXXFLAGS=-std=c++11
Why this? We started using C++14 in June 2022. We are currently building with
-std=c++17, though we haven't intentionally started using C++17 features.
Carl told me that Lilypond is still trying to maintain capability with C++11. After my error magically resolved itself, I can successfully build C++11 and 17 versions of Lilypond anyways.
