If you want to enter that way, you could write ABC and then use abc2ly
to get lilypond output.
If you want a GUI for entering ABC, the best cross-platform one is
5-line skink.
I find I can touch type ABC from a printed score a lot easier than I
can lilypond. But lilypond output looks a *lot* better than any of
the ABC publishing apps, at least for what I do.
