I think it's great that you're using LilyPond to learn about LISP/Scheme. My Scheme is non-existant. I'm not sure why you're working on "bar lines, rehearsal marks, breaks, and the like", since they seem to be already covered reasonably well in LilyPond. On the other hand, there are still a lot of difficulties with LilyPond that probably would respond well to Scheme. Have you had a look at the Bug List?
