It depends how you read the list. Reached by a browser, that link displays the image after the message (for me), but a saved copy of the page (or hovering over the image with the cursor) shows that the image is actually being downloaded from a link: <a href="pngaidFgtkyly.png" ><img src="pngaidFgtkyly.png" alt="PNG image"></a> or IOW, from https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/lilypond-user/2019-07/pngaidFgtkyly.png Now look at the same message as an individual post sent from the list, and you can see that it's included as an attachment: If there is another simple solution I would be glad to know how to do it! Werner ----Next_Part(Thu_Jul_18_14_15_11_2019_901)-- Content-Type: Image/Png Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-Disposition: inline; filename="three-bars.png" But now take a look at the *Digest* emails. If you get them sent as large MIME attachments, then you're in the same position as subscribers to the individual emails. However, if you get them sent as smaller, text-only digests, you'll find the attachment is "scrubbed", and there's a link for fetching it: If there is another simple solution I would be glad to know how to do it! Date: Sat, 12 Mar 2016 12:33:46 -0600 From: David Wright <lily...@lionunicorn.co.uk> To: webmast...@gnu.org Subject: Broken link Message-ID: <20160312183346.GA10360@alum> User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.21 (2010-09-15) Could you tell me why this link does not exist on your server? http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/lilypond-user/attachments/20160312/6eba7c13/attachment.png I have taken this link from the following email which is a lilypond-user digest: Message-ID: <mailman.18001.1457803851.840.lilypond-u...@gnu.org> The first message in this digest has a "scrubbed" attachment. An email version of this message received directly from the list would have this attachment. The digest contains the link above in its place. There is no obvious route by which the attachment is available. Interestingly however, the attachment *is* available on your server but at a different address. In this case it is: http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/lilypond-user/2016-03/pngHJxj6irVRF.png Why is this address not given in the digest? Cheers, David.
