I usually use a list of \overrideTimeSignatureSettings for the various
timesignatures. For example:

myAutoBeam = {
  \overrideTimeSignatureSettings
  #'(3 . 4)  % timeSignatureFraction
  #'(1 . 4)  % baseMomentFraction
  #'(1 1 1)  % beatStructure
  #'()       % beamExceptions
  \overrideTimeSignatureSettings
  #'(2 . 2)  % timeSignatureFraction
  #'(1 . 2)  % baseMomentFraction
  #'(1 1)    % beatStructure
  #'((end . (((1 . 12) . (3 3 3 3 ))))) % beamExceptions
}

It is easy to expand and will be used by every timesignature change.
