Ah. I had both: Due to my continued inability to hold the whole of it in my head, I've been working from a Frankensteinian template that I cobbled together which, up until now, has worked for the stuff I've been transcribing. The template had both \mergeDifferentlyHeadedOn and \mergeDifferentlyDottedOn. (I don't recall which scores in the book wanted those.) Anyway, I removed both and all is looking good now. Thanks.
