Well, most of the case it probably won't matter, but I could imagine using it to turn a quadratic algorithm into a linear one in advanced cases. (Or just to avoid excessive Scheme allocations; we both know that LilyPond spends quite a lot of time in GC.) But yes, in the current code base, there is no use of this efficiency bonus.
