Can you please explain how and why you missed that? While
`place-fret` is just a ('named') list as part of the arguments of that
markup; it is not a function.

Thanks, Werner.  Yes, I should have looked up at the broader context instead of fixating on the details.  I hadn't seen place-fret before and assumed from the parentheses that (place-fret 3 2 "A") was invoking a scheme function called place-fret.  Bad assumption.

If you can cook up examples please help! You can contribute
them easily by adjusting

The next Wiki import will then update the LilyPond documentation.

Thank you for the invitation.  I'll start cooking.

What index entries (and where) do you want me to add?

We may not have a precedent for this, since place-fret is not a function, but, since the examples demonstrate it takes a wide variety of quasi-arguments (including even a ",#{ \markup"), it seemed complex enough to be mentioned, perhaps in the general Lilypond index?  I've seen repeated advice, e.g. from Jean in the day, to always check the index first.  But in this case, googling "lilypond place-fret" was better.  Putting all keywords into the index would likely point to too many places,  but perhaps 'place-fret' would only have to lead to the markup definition for fret-diagram-verbose.  Is that feasible?
