Hi Jogchum,

> This works, thanks.

I’m glad Gabriel’s method worked for you.

Personally, I’d use this approach:

%%%  SNIPPET BEGINS
\version "2.27.0"

\markup \vspace #4
\markup "1. Default = Bar_number_engraver in Score:"
\score {
  { c''1 1 1 1 \break s1 s s s \break c''1 1 1 1 }
  \layout {
    \context {
      \Score
      \RemoveEmptyStaves
    }
  }
}

\markup \vspace #4
\markup "2. Moving Bar_number_engraver to Staff:"
\score {
  { c''1 1 1 1 \break s1 s s s \break c''1 1 1 1 }
  \layout {
    \context {
      \Score
      \remove Bar_number_engraver
    }
    \context {
      \Staff
      \consists Bar_number_engraver
      \RemoveEmptyStaves
    }
  }
}
%%%  SNIPPET ENDS

That way, you never have to \omit and \undo \omit: Lilypond just does the right
thing, no matter where the line breaks end up!

Hope that helps,
Kieren.
