Yes, KDE and GNOME applications are designed to run well alongside each other. 
The choice KDE vs. GNOME is not something black-or-white like the choice 
between Mac and Windows, where you have to choose one and can't run 
applications for the other. Rather, it's like the choice between applications 
written in MS Visual C++ (using the MFC), Visual Basic applications and 
programs written in Borland Pascal. They all use different toolkits and might 
look and behave differently, but they run well alongside each other.

Also, KDE and GNOME applications share a lot of the underlying infrastructure 
(e.g. libraries, D-BUS, HAL, general frameworks, etc.)
