You must use GTK+ . I am using GTK+ Runtime version 2.14.7 Well Scala just choked(never started) Finally Huygens from Scala http://www.huygens-fokker.org/scala/ suggested that I put GTK2-Runtime as the first program in my path... But that is risky so I deleted LilyPond and although GTK is the last program file in the PATH is works okay. Hence Lilypond is the culprit here.. Could it be that some of its libraries do conflict with GTK+?
