I tried that setting but I couldn't see a difference either way. Perhaps it's something else that's wrong? Would you like me to make you a quick video showing the situation? If that would help you determine if this is a bug or just my bad luck, let me know. :) I'd be happy to help.
As of now, on Ubuntu 13.04, no icons appear but only text (Save As, etc).
