Hi all,
Considering Nicolas' excellent post(s) on 'Scores of Beauty' (
http://lilypondblog.org/2013/08/adding-ornamentations-to-note-heads-part-1/)
I think it would be a _very_ good thing to have someone write a
tutorial about LilyPond engravers in general:
Focus should be on understanding the concepts, extending over what the
official docs can provide.
Writing engravers allows one to fundamentally extend LilyPond's
functionality, and this tutorial should help (already advanced) users
take the step to dive into that possibility.
As I see it the tutorial should cover these topics (more are welcome
of course):
- What engravers are and what they do in LP's architecture
- How to read documentation about engravers
- How to incorporate LP's and third-party engravers (e.g. from LSR)
- How to approach writing new engravers (what you can use them for and
how to do it)
Depending on the length of the text this could be done either as a
blog post or as a pdf document with an introductory post.
I'd be very happy about volunteers because I can't write this myself
(maybe I could after having read it ;-) ).
If you know enough about the topic but aren't sure about the technical
aspect of publishing the tutorial feel free to contact me privately.
Best
Urs
In order to make this a slightly less voluminous task one could split it
up into several posts, possibly by different authors.
In that case I w/c-ould write a post covering the second and third items
on the above list.
Urs
