I had that kind of issue long time ago, well before Davide's port. I don't remember the exact solution, but it was about playing with the +quartz -x11. Now, both are ok on my setup with +quartz +x11.
I any case, I guess +quartz is necessary to have the OS X interface (and I guess qt4 rely on it).
