if jaques is working with emacs, he'll never have a problem _giving_ other
people files, since anyone can read ascii text. but _getting_ files from
others will be a problem, especially if he interacts w/ a lot of windows
users. but if he can tell them in advance to send text or html only, it
won't be a problem.

this is probably the best bet for him. he'll be able to read countless texts
(including all of project gutenberg) straight from emacs with emacspeak, and
yet use his old software for stuff.
