better design than the current linux sound drivers, and it's all free.

the dirty little secret about our favorite os is that sound support is no
good. barely passable (for game playing etc.) but for music, well there's
good stuff like csound etc., the overall experience is pathetic, IMHO. and the
sound code is tied in with commercial, non-free software.

i don't think it will be like this forever, though. give it two years.
