I've just joined the linart mailing list. I'm a software developer,
musician, writer, and graphic artist / web designer. (phew!)

I am currently developing GNU OCTAL, an official GNU project
which is similar to the new unit-generator based tracking techniques.
In other words, it's a fun, flexible music making tool. It's not finished
yet, but if it's anything like the existing systems out there, it could
bring more people to linux. I use a similar system available for Windows,
and I am very pleased with it, as are many others.

As a computer scientist, my primary interest is in people using computers
to express themselves. Whether that's using emacs to write a story, or
Inform to write interactive fiction, or the GIMP to paint pictures,
or (soon) OCTAL to create music, that's what I want to do myself, create tools
to do, and promote in general.

While I am switching to Linux in the immediate future, some things still
keep me in win32. The GIMP is great, but I work almost exclusively
with vector graphics. Is there an equivalent of CorelDRAW or Adobe Illustrator
now in development for Linux? If so I would like to assist in any way I can. Vector
imaging is not my area of expertise, but I have training in technical writing; perhaps
I can assist with documentation.
