I had to replace my old Creative 16 WavEffects card
because I was getting bus noise over the speakers
(independent of OS--did it even during the RAM check).
A friend told me this was strictly an ISA phenomenon,
so I picked up a Creative/Ensoniq AudioPCI. I'm using
the latest ALSA drivers, but I've lost /dev/sequencer;
a bigger problem still, I can't record from microphone
or line-in. I note that the bass and treble sliders on
xmix are inactive, and somewhere I read SoundBlaster
cards won't record without access to them.
I'm fine with buying a different card--it needs to be
PCI, preferably with ALSA support, and must be able to
record. Any recommendations?
