Hi,
I've noticed that the artists on this site
are mostly musicians or otherwise audio-oriented
(rather than visual arts), so I think there might
be lots of people with more multimedia experience
than we have. We are collaborating on a design
for a generic graphic adventure game engine,
associated with two different game projects (one
of which is my Light Princess project, which I
have links for below, and is presently where the
discussion is).

We've recently put together two "specs" for
this engine design, in preparing to get the stuff
on the table for a combined spec.

I've noticed that neither of us seems to think
of audio except as an afterthought, so it would
seem natural to solicit comments from people
much more into it.

The Light Princess will also need musicians
and voice talent at some point in the future,
so anyone interested is welcome to check in
on us. We are hoping to attract the audio
talent a little later on, though, when we
have the game more fleshed-out. At this
point the main audio issues would be technical
ones -- like formats and capabilities to
support:

* Given what we're trying to do (see the
sites below for details), what sort of audio
capability should we incorporate?

* How should we handle synching animation to
audio (as for characters talking?).

* What about music (e.g. MIDI) support? Good
compressed sound formats (is MP3 the right
choice for us, for example?).

* Studio issues and clean-up. This is a
volunteer effort, so we can't afford a sound
studio to work in. What can we do to clean
up input from home-computer microphones, etc?

Of course, there are also many other game
engine design issues up for discussion, too.

I am a member of your list, so I'm willing
to discuss these here, or you're welcome to
join the Light Princess list from the link
below.

Thanks a lot!
