Do you mean that you know True Type is not
supported by Sketch? -- I had thought that it
was, though I'm not so sure.  Certainy TTF
files can be served as X-fonts, converted to
metafont format for TeX, or converted to
Type-1 for other purposes.

In general, the freetype library has allowed
TTF to be converted to most other formats
in use on Linux.  The reverse is not true --
in general, you can't convert anything *into*
TTF format. That's because none of the software
supports True-Type hinting, which I'm told
is very complex.

I admit I haven't really delved into this
topic yet.
