  As soon as I sent that message I realized I hadn't tried the Gimp.
Well, it works, but it's overkill (it uses 97 color definitions by
default, and I only need four or five at most). I'm hoping to find a
lightweight app that does nothing but edit pixmaps, though the Gimp will
certainly do the job (and it has fonts!).

  And yes, "manually" means via a text editor (vi). Man, I'm Old School
all the way...  ;)
