Dear Lincoln Talk,

IMHO

Isn't simplier?

Self-control Rule No. 1: One need not read nor respond to everything
posted. (Sometimes taking a vacation does wonders.)

For users:
The Town Meeting analogy is a good one. Keep discourse civic and civilized
on Lincoln Talk at that same level.
One can ignore or even go so far as to block within one's own inbox those
email sources that one wishes not to see.

For moderators:
Blocking ad hominem (subtle or direct) and other forms of discourteous
words is quite appropriately OK, otherwise not much needs blocking.

*****

I wonder about a lot of what's written, but I read many posts anyway, to
check my own thinking. Hardly am I omniscient yet, haha. And anyway, if
it gets too much for me, there is Rule No. 1.

Truly astounding and useful are the work of digging out of information, the
different perspectives and analyses, and the personal knowledge/expertise
shown in the postings. I have to thank those who do this work, etc.
Especially when reading them has changed my opinion/understanding.

Probably there is a limit to the digital footprint Lincoln Talk can have
as a service. We correspondents get for free. Emails of just text are
amazingly small size in bytes, especially in contrast to
photographs/digital images. So probably frequency and length of texts only
are mostly red herrings for this controversy underway. If there are a lot
of emails I don't want, a batch delete is easy enough to perform. Just two
clicks.

Aside from what is stated above, I don't see much need for blocking,
censorship, restrictions.

Gordon Woodington

p.s. For the Moderators: a good idea??: add a link to the document of
Rules for Lincoln Talk to the LT's standard email footer, already
containing various links. An easy way to be "Rule-aware", just one click.
