Hi LT,

Most of you have probably experienced the frustration of sitting at the
railroad crossing with the arms down for what feels like hours, only of the
arms to go up with either no train passing, or the arms never go up and
people have to drive around the arms to get to the other side, or you give
up and find another way that doesn't involve crossing the railroad tracks.

I feel like 85% of the time, the arms (when they come down), have problems.

Today is no different. I finally called the number posted at the crossing
and spoke to a crossing customer service person. I explained that the arms
have had issues for a very long time, that it causes traffic to build up on
Tower and 117, making turns onto 117 from Tower ever more difficult and
dangerous, etc.

He said:
1. There have been many reports (even today) of trouble at this crossing
2. The crossing mechanisms at this particular crossing differ from most
others and is the most problematic of their crossings
3. The Tower Road crossing, today, is in a "protected crossing" mode which
means that the trains must slow down and stop at the crossing because there
is something wrong with the arms.
4. His suggestion was to always call and report an issue so that the
problem becomes elevated, to what end, I don't know.

If you are stuck at the Tower Road crossing and are inclined to report a
problem, you may call:1.800.449.6393. The MBTA number for the crossing is
052337W.
