At its May 22nd meeting, the Lincoln Select Board reaffirmed Lincoln's recognition of June 19th as "Juneteenth" in Lincoln. The proclamation shares some history of the Juneteenth holiday and underscores the Town's commitment to "using our voices and resources to protect the rights of all residents, students, employees, and visitors to participate fully in the life of our community." In recognition of the important events of June 1865, the Select Board voted to issue the following Proclamation https://www.lincolntown.org/DocumentCenter/View/79098/Juneteenth-Proclamation-2023, and to arrange for the ringing of church bells throughout the community.
"NOW THEREFORE, we, the Lincoln Select Board, do hereby reaffirm and proclaim June 19, 2023, and each June 19th hereafter as Juneteenth in Lincoln, to be celebrated at 4:00 pm by vigorous ringing of bells throughout the community, if practical." We are pleased to say that with the help of Lincoln's churches, our community will indeed hear a "vigorous ringing of bells" on Monday at 4:00pm. May their sound inspire both joy and reflection.
