i have five tall (20') pear trees.this year they have lots of fruit.
i rope them off to keep marauding deer from decimating my crop,i surround the
trunks with metal flashing to keep chipmunks and squirrels from climbing up and
picking off my pears.this year i even added plastic dog recovery cones to the
trunksfor added protection.this system has been working well for years and i
harvest lots of fruit..
last week some unknown thieves made off with every single pear of the hundred +
semi-ripe fruits on one of the trees.they left no trace of a single pear or
stem or even a piece of flesh on the ground.
the pears are heavy and they take a firm pull to release them from the branch.
does anyone have an idea who could have done this?is it possible for some kind
of bird to steal whole fruits off a tree?
i'm frustrated, sad and perplexed.
