In Brookline, a considerably more urban area of 63,000 residents, the town was mandated to add *1,540* new units of housing. Brookline has 3 green line branches running with high frequency and multiple bus routes. It developed around the streetcars, and has ample access to public transportation.
In Lincoln, a smaller more rural town of about 7,000, we are asked to add *635 *units, with public transportation limited to one train/hour, with some bus service in North Lincoln running a bit more frequently. It was a farming town, not developed around streetcars, with very limited public transportation. I feel this is much like the radical restructuring that occured in the late '50s -early '60s. Does anyone think the government mandates had it right when they pushed 'urban development'? Plans that get pushed through too quickly are often flawed due to speeding the process and not thinking of unintended consequences. Please add 'None of the above' or 'Reject HCA' to the choices available on Dec. 2.
