Dear LT, I was also at the transfer station on one of the super busy days after
the holidays. However my takeaway was not that the DPW should have more open
times for us and our trash. I was struck by how our beloved holidays seem to
have turned into an extreme form of consumerism. I know I am prone to those
last minute internet purchases, just in case I don't have enough gifts for
friends/kids.
So let's start 2025 with a different mindset that will reduce how much trash we
create...just think of every piece of trash from Lincoln being incinerated in
North Andover and the pollution that ensues.
Here are a few options. Skip online purchases and all the packaging
Buy second hand/ clothing and toy
swaps/ do with less
Support zero waste stores- Debra's
Natural Gourmet has a fantastic bulk purchasing section
Avoid plastic whenever possible
And check out "Buy Now: the shopping conspiracy" on Netflix.
Best wishes,
Trish O'Hagan
