Roadway & Traffic Committee Vacancy (RTC) The Select Board invites applications from residents who would like to be considered for appointment to the Town's Roadway & Traffic Committee (RTC). The person appointed will serve a one-year term. The RTC acts in an advisory capacity, providing the Select Board with recommendations about roadway and roadside path plans and designs. The RTC also acts as an advisory body to the Superintendent of the Department of Public Works, helping to ensure that roadway and roadside maintenance and improvement projects consider the needs of pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers-while also respecting the principles of small-town, rural design. Finally, the RTC also serves as a forum for residents to voice their concerns about roads and roadside paths.
The RTC works in close collaboration with the Town's Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) which performs a separate but related role with a more concentrated focus on improving and expanding pedestrian and cyclist safety and connectivity throughout Lincoln. To help ensure coordination of efforts, RTC and BPAC meet periodically under an umbrella committee, the Transportation Coalition. Working together, and in close partnership with the Town's professional staff and consulting engineers, RTC and BPAC's efforts have culminated in a number of notable recent projects including, the Route 117/Lincoln Road crosswalk, the new Magnolia path connection adjacent to Codman Farm, the "advisory shoulder" reconfiguration of Farrar Road, and a recently completed 5-Year capital improvement plan. Although not required, a background in planning, design and construction, project management, transportation planning, or traffic safety would be beneficial. The interactive nature of the committee's work requires a strong commitment to teamwork and collaboration and a respect for Town process. The RTC meets no more than once a month and currently, meetings are held in the mornings for no longer than an hour and a half. The Town's Volunteer Application<http://www.lincolntown.org/DocumentCenter/View/85683/Volunteer-Sign-Up-Form-2023?bidId=> form can be found on the Town's website.
