Does anyone know why the Select Board wants us to approve the change on who
appoints the Finance Committee from the moderator to the Select board
themselves? See the Select Board's news bulletin that was sent to all
outlining what the Special Town Meeting will vote on in the upcoming June
25th meeting. Historically, and to this day, the moderator appoints the
Finance Committee. When I was Selectman in Belmont, we also had the
moderator appointing the Finance Committee, and the mechanism worked to
keep politics out of the appointments because the moderator, by nature, was
an even handed guy. Why does the Select Board in Lincoln want to change
this so that they appoint the committee? Anne Warner
