I am a former Water Commission. The funny taste this time of year comes from a
natural process. During the summe water at the top of the pond is warmer than
the water at the bottom of the pond. When we start having the cool days of
autumn, the water at the top starts getting cooler, so it sinks to the bottom
and the warmer water from the bottom of the pond rises to the top. This is
called “turnover”. So the organics stirred up by the autumn turnover is what is
making the water taste a little more like a more like a mossy bucket.
