Hi Stephen, We have installed 2 gas stoves - both conversions from wood burning, and we love them both.
We used Clappers in Sudbury - Rob was the owner then, but he now does just installations and repairs. We think he is terrific - and even comes to the cape to keep our gas fireplace well maintained (15 years). We purchased 2 Valour gas stoves - a Canadian product which is solid, well-built and believe it will outlive us. As Rob no longer does the retail end, I think you can go to any retail gas fireplace store to get information on the various products - or give Rob a call to see which place around here is best. But I would highly recommend Rob to install - and better yet, maintain. Rob Clappers # is 978-443-2380 (I believe the Saffran's used him as well). I think you will enjoy the ease and comfort of a gas fireplace - and when we lose electricity - it produces heat as the pilot starter is battery operated.
