And now that I think of it, since you're kind of opening this up to
users to put in whatever they want, you can't really know for sure
any more what it is you're going to need for overhead.

For instance *you* know that full-screen, full-motion video at 30 FPS
will choke mightily on all but big ole fatty systems. Your ultimate
end users might not know that at all. And while a fast machine can
probably handle having three or four Flash sprites onstage at once,
not all machines can deal well with that. This is another thing your
end users won't know.

So while the *tech* minimum specs are probably Win98se, PII, what you
might build to run on a system like that versus what the end user
will build are two different things altogether.

You wanted horror stories so I'll tell you that one client, over the
course of six months time, simply *would not* learn that just because
a particular thing worked on her monster edit system it may not
necessarily come off so well elsewhere, and constantly was calling us
asking why things were running so poorly on slow machines.

As soon as you open things up to end-user editing, you run a risk of
having real problems with user comprehension.

BTW when you xposted this and I replied, one copy of my note went to
dir games, of which I am not a member. You might want to actually
separately post your crossposts. Sort of quasi-crossposts. Quaspost?
;)
