We had a bunch of apps tied together, on a parallel dev cycle, with tight links between them: -- ColdFusion Server: core serverside component -- Dreamweaver: creates text files, but also serverside instructions -- Flash: creates something as viewable as text, but richer than text On those three legs of the stool there are other things being built, such as the Communications Server and Remoting Server, and other things still in the works. (These aren't irreplaceable legs... you can go out to ASP or PHP instead of CF, or can use a text editor instead of DW, or don't need to use SWF at all... those three just work particularly well together for ubiquitous interface delivery.) Director's strengths are in other areas -- standalone apps and destination environments, particularly. It had also just shipped a major version a few months before. That's why it's not tied into that initial MX launch. We're currently in a Director development round, but won't be able to announce anything until it's close enough to deliver that we don't get burned if glitches arise.
