Well, how about minimizing the transition. Use a simple, fast transition like Push Up with a 0 time and a chunk size of 128. I'm not sure if this would work, but you could try it:
tell the stage puppetTransition 14, 0, 128 end tell
I think that would override the transition channel, and would happen so fast as to be barely noticeable.

zero time is still quite visible & it might be hard to use that tell at exactly the right time.
