What's up with transparency in icons in OS X? In OS 9 I used to be able to paste a PNG image into the Get Info Icon, and what was transparent in the PNG remained transparent in the icon. Now in OS X 10.2.6, The transparent areas become black.
If I have to use an icon editopr to achieve transparency in OS X icons, what's a good one to use?
The free one supplied by Apple in their Developer toolkit. The kit is available in the box with Jaguar, or you can download the disc image from Apple.
You do have to use an icon editor, and you've got to explore creating .app bundles. There's a technote at MACR dealing with some of that and if you look over the way a current .app is put together you can muddle through the rest. Right-click a program such as IE and select "show package contents" to get started.
