This may help.

Director can extract ID3 tags from .mp3 files.
Just link them temporarily to a .swa cast member.

For one project, I built a routine which built a list of a file names from a folder full of mp3s & then linked each .mp3 and extracted it's ID3 tags into an ID3 proplist for each.

Later on, as each filename got linked to a 'regular' sound member so that it's playback could be controlled with a transport UI (play, stop, pause, positional slider, progress indicator, etc.), the extracted tag data was then accessed and displayed.
