Sincere thanks to all those that answered my querie.

I've downloaded a coy of sequenceXtra and am about to start working with it to see what it can do (and what I can do with it). It looks like it is just what I need.

To expand a little just in case someone has any bright ideas:

I have an interactive character (in Shockwave3D) and when the viewer is not actively interacting with it, it will wonder about its world making musical sorts of sounds. I imagine it will be playing one note at a time (or a chord) which is selected randomly or algorithmically but maybe keeping to some kind of theme (like using the same or similar instrument or keeping to a particular range of notes or a particular scale). However it might be useful to keep a memory of the previous notes that it has played and maybe build a collection of songs or tracks for use in new "songs". Sorry if this is a bit scattered but I am thinking this through as I write. And the more I think about it the more sequenceXtra seems like it might be the perfect solution for me, judging from the little bits that I have picked up glancing through the manual.

Valantin, I have dowloaded your midi_class file to have a look at. Unfortunatley I can't play the files as it needs the beatnik Xtra and all the included Xtras are Win Xtras, and I have a Mac. However I will have a look at your Midi parent script (assuming that is OK) to see if they give me any ideas for my project.

Thanks again,

John
