A text file can be opened easily and altered. If you can put a locked 
cast library (.cxt) on the hard drive, then you can have a counter in a 
castmember. Every launch updates(increments) the counter and saves down 
the cast library. When you hit 10 or 20 launches, throw up a screen 
saying "Sorry, trial period over" or something like that and a QUIT 
button or just end the program on your own.
