I too have had the same problem as you with Quicktime.  There seems to be a
double screen flash to the stage color and or white when setting up a movie
to play, even when the movie is preloaded.

The workaround that I use is to place a copy of the first and last frames
overlaying the movie on the ends of the sprite spans.  You can easily make
the picts needed by copying out of the movie playback window on the frame
desired and pasting into the Cast or Paint.

How it works is that the flashes are due to setting up the "direct to stage"
bit, and therefore the pict hides the flashes by covering them.  Then, when
the movie starts playing, it overlays the pict because "direct to stage"
covers the pict.
