Put my two cents (currently US$0.0053) on the NT Temp folder being a
different location, or being locked up by the system administrators, or
both!

A Director projector unpacks the .EXE revealing the equivalent of a .dxr, a
playback engine (*.dll files).  If it can't write these files then it may
spit the dummy.  You might like to investigate the Director Shockwave player
7 option.  You can arrange these files so Director does not have to unpack
the DLL files etc.  Lots of assistance at
www.Macromedia.com/support/director.  As for D6 version for this technique I
am not so sure.
