No, sorry, it can't.

I've gotten a similar effect, though, by mocking up a window with sprites. 
It hangs around offstage until I whistle, then it comes running to the 
coordinates I give it.

You could do it with imaging Lingo, too--composite in an off-screen buffer 
and blit it to the screen.

The biggest disadvantage is constraining animations, keeping track of 
multiple sprite locations, and disabling the buttons on the background 
screen to emulate a modal dialog. Those can all be done, but it takes a bit 
of extra work.
