As an OTT approach, you could always increase your score by an extra 10 or
so channels more than you will ever need and then use them for sprite
puppeting - you won't need to perform any checks then because you will know
them to be free channels.
Surely to god an extra 10 channels is not gonna be noticeable in the 3Mb D8
base runtime, is it?
As an aside, anybody know how big the base projector size is D8.5? Having
the shock of seeing D5 projectors hover at around 1.5Mb to double when I got
D8 was a shock - should I brace myself?
