Just so we're all clear on how to do this in SW8 versus SW8.5 ...

***********
Shockwave 8
***********

1. Make a copy of Director.ini, renaming it shockwave.ini
2. Place the shockwave.ini into the Shockwave player's folder, here are some typical
paths to the player folder:

on Win9x: C:\Windows\System\Macromed\Shockwave 8
on WinNT: C:\WinNT\System32\Macromed\Shockwave 8
on Mac: Mac HD:System:Extensions:Macromedia:Shockwave 8

3. Open the shockwave.ini file (it's a text file) and find the line that reads:

;MessageWindow=1

4. Uncomment that line by removing the ";" character:

MessageWindow=1

5. Close and save the shockwave.ini file with your changes.

Now everytime the Shockwave player is invoked, a message window will open and be
available for your use.

*************
Shockwave 8.5
*************

1. At some time in the movie set 'the debugPlaybackEnabled' to TRUE and a message
window will open and be available for your use.
2. At some time in the movie set 'the debugPlaybackEnabled' to FALSE and the message
window will close and cannot be reopened until the current movie is unloaded from the
player.

The technique required is based upon the Shockwave player version and not the DCR's
creation version!

Have fun,
Tom
