This conversation takes me back to my old AI days at CSIRO. I seem to remember then, the AI community mired in discussions of data vs information vs knowledge vs wisdom. Sounds like we haven't progressed much since then.
My take on it all was/is that we need to be careful in anchoring stuff to definitions. In this area, what is data to one may be information/knowledge/wisdom to another. The issue would appear to me to be one of context and that is one thing we haven't really solved in the AI arena, context-sensitive application of data/information/knowledge/wisdom. bobj On 28/08/13 3:12 PM, Bernard Robertson-Dunn wrote: > On 28/08/2013 2:58 PM, Roger Clarke wrote: > >> It doesn't help that he uses Information when he should say Data, and >> Knowledge when he should say Information. > Roger, you took the words right out of my mouth, sorry, email. > > However I was also going to make reference to andyf's posting on "What > the Americans do with fibre-based broadband" in which there was the > phrase "the consumption of knowledge". > > Knowledge is a human characteristic, it's something a human has.
