There have been multiple updates to Flash since October 2013, so something
is clearly wrong with your install of Flash (potentially it has updates
disabled?)

Checking for updates via FireFox itself only updated add-ins that FireFox
downloaded, where Flash would have been downloaded and installed outside of
FireFox and thus has it's own update mechanism.

If you are still on a version from October then you should update ASAP -
You can check your actual version of Flash and get the latest from
http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ - simply install it over the top
of your existing version and it will look after updating it.

When you install it, you'll get prompted to enable automatic updates in
future, and obviously you should select "yes".
