THREE rocky outcrops discovered off the Kimberley coast will prompt a redrawing
of Western Australia's maritime boundaries, which could substantially increase
the state's stake in the Browse gas field.

The outcrops were found by Geoscience Australia, and while small are
technically considered islands.

With the redefining of maritime boundaries, the state's interest in the Browse
gas field could jump from five per cent to 65 per cent, boosting royalties to
WA.

Mines Minister Bill Marmion said it was a very exciting development and
potentially a big windfall for the state, but the significance of the find was
still being determined.
