"Redefining life" seems a bit of  stretch. Photosynthesising plants
"eat" photons and nobody marvels at how they are "eating pure energy". I
know, I'm missing the point a bit :-) The heat that keeps us all alive
by allowing chemical reactions to take place at appropriate rates is
"pure energy" too.
