Yes. As you get told on any introductory entrepreneurship course, most
bright ideas are not worth very much. The value comes from having people
who can implement them and working out who will pay for the product.

Yes. I have been at start-up competitions, with people from companies
wandering around looking at who to invest in. They are looking more for
talent that IP.

No, there will not be much IP worth anything generated during a
hackerthon. It is the contacts formed which are of more value.
As an example, here is an example of a not very valuable bright idea I
had while watching one too many cooking shows:
Food Fab: Additive Manufacturing System for Rations
The military require packaged food with a long shelf life, made to
exacting standards, at short notice. This is expensive and difficult for
large scale manufacturers to supply. Food fab applies JIT additive
manufacturing techniques to the supply of MILSPEC food. Food fab comes
in standard shipping container modules for transport by air land or sea
to the area of operations, and can be set up in a few hours on a bare
base, or RORO vessel. The plant can be operated by reserve personnel,
called up when required. In peacetime Food Fab can made long life
adventure food, snack products, and short runs of package food for
consumer trails.
